Why join a Synagogue?
Membership at Congregation Rodfei Zedek provides a spiritual link to the larger Jewish Community. Our structure allows us to respond to your needs within the framework of an egalitarian, Conservative synagogue. Membership enables you to enrich your Jewish life and provides you with a Jewish community with which to identify. It puts you in contact with people with similar interests. Membership allows you to observe your moments of joy and sorrow within a sensitive and supportive community. Finally, membership fulfills the mitzvah of Jewish continuity through myriad opportunities to celebrate our traditions.
Synagogue Participation
We offer many paths to synagogue involvement and spiritual enrichment: prayer, education, celebration, and social activities. There are daily opportunities for prayer, through the morning minyan, Kabbalat Shabbat services, or Shabbat morning and afternoon observance. Formal education through classes and speakers on Shabbat; self-directed education through our Abbell Library and informal conversation. Meaningful social contact through shared Friday night dinners and Shabbat Kiddush, holiday celebrations, and social action.
We encourage your participation. We are committed to helping you find your place in congregational life. Interfaith couples are most welcome.
Synagogue Commitment
Synagogue members make a commitment to support the work of the synagogue financially. The Board of Trustees sets standard levels of dues each year for one-person households and multi-person households. No one, however, is denied membership for financial reasons.
For returning members, dues are $2,200 for families and $1,375 for individuals. Dues must be paid in full, as well as any other outstanding debts to the synagogue, before High Holy Days tickets will be mailed. Sustaining Members further strengthen the Congregation's operations. Your dues are deemed tax deductible for federal income tax purposes.
We welcome everyone who wants to be a member irrespective of ability to pay. No one will be turned away from Congregation Rodfei Zedek for financial considerations. To make arrangements for a confidential dues adjustment or other financial arrangement, please contact the Synagogue Administrator (administrator@rodfei.org or 773.752.2770).
Synagogue Privileges
As a benefit of membership, members are entitled to call on the clergy and to use the synagogue facilities in observance of life cycle events, such as auf ruf, weddings, brit milah and baby namings, b’nai mitzvah, and funerals. (Under certain circumstances, facility use may require an additional fee.) Membership allows you access to our clergy and staff for pastoral counseling, hospital visitation, and meeting similar needs.
Membership includes tickets for the High Holy Days including all dependent children.
