Dear Congregants,
The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Rabbi David Minkus has accepted its offer to become the Rabbi of Congregation Rodfei Zedek, effective July 7th, 2014.
One of nearly thirty accomplished candidates, Rabbi Minkus impressed the Search Committee and the Board with his creative and flexible thinking in the context of Conservative Judaism, his focus on creating personal relationships and fostering community, and his inquisitive approach to teaching and learning. The Board believes Rabbi Minkus will be an outstanding partner and leader for Rodfei Zedek as we continue our current programs, services, and activities while looking to develop additional approaches to Jewish life and community.
Rabbi Minkus is from Skokie. He graduated from the University of Illinois and is receiving his Rabbinic Ordination and Masters in Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary. He was the rabbi of the Fitzgerald Hebrew Congregation in Fitzgerald, Georgia, from 2011‑2013, and has been a rabbinic intern with Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove at the Park Avenue Synagogue in New York. His wife, Ilyssa, is from Morton Grove; she is a special education teacher.
The Board of Trustees thanks the Rabbinic Search Committee—James Gimpel (chair), Halina Brukner, Margo Criscuola, Stephanie Friedman, Lisa Kohn, Daniel Libenson, Steven Loevy, Louis Philipson, and Jeffrey Ruby—for its diligence, thoughtfulness, and dedication to the search.
Please join us in welcoming Rabbi Minkus and Ilyssa Minkus to Congregation Rodfei Zedek.
Sincerely,
Diane Altkorn, President
