Reading Groups
Non-Fiction Chavurah | Fiction Chavurah | Sisterhood Morning/Evening
The Non-Fiction Chavurah meets about every other month at the home of a group member. Books will be announced, but have included Michael Oren's Power, Faith and Fantasy: America in the Middle East, 1776 to the Present, Simcha Weinstein's Up, Up, and Oy Vey!: How Jewish History, Culture, and Values Shaped the Comic Book Superhero, and Abraham Joshua Heschel's God in Seach of Man.
The Monday Fiction Chavurah meets once a month in members' homes. We began years ago with the intention of reading and discussing fiction by Jewish writers, but we've branched out into nonfiction and books by non-Jews. Our democratic selection process has broadened our horizons, and the varied backgrounds of members lead to lively and enlightening discussions. Food and friendship have become a central element of our gatherings. Past books have included Tevye the Dairyman by Sholem Aleichem, The Ghost Writer by Philip Roth, and The Girl with the Brown Crayon by Vivian Gussin Paley.
The Sisterhood Morning Book Club meets monthly September through June on Monday mornings at CRZ. New members and visitors are welcome.
The Sisterhood Evening Readers meet monthly year-round on Wednesday evenings at CRZ. New members and visitors interested in discussing a particular book are welcome.
