Sunday Programs

We are planning to start a Kindergarten Class in the Hoffman Religious School on Sunday morning, and we are designing a Sunday morning drop-in program for pre-K—but we need to know who is out there and who may be interested.  Both programs—and others you can think of—are open to all members of the congregation for their children and grandchildren who may currently attend Hoffman School, Akiba Schechter, Moadon, or no religious school at all.

We are planning now for the Fall—we are filling the calendar for 5769 with programs to engage, enlighten and inspire people of every age.  Of course, we want to offer events that will appeal to our youngest friends and their parents as well, so please tell us more about you.  Please download the information sheet and let us know what works for your family.

Congregational Dinners

Join the Rodfei community for special Kabbalat Shabbat and festival services at 6:00 p.m.  Relaxing and delicious dinners follow by reservation.  Thanks to the Rodfei Zedek Sisterhood, there's no charge for childrens' meals.

Children's Shabbat Activities

  • Family services throughout the year
  • All children pre-school age through middle school are invited to come to spend Shabbat afternoons at Congregation Rodfei Zedek for a Shabbaton.  Shabbatonim are scheduled once a month over the winter on days that coincide with Family Services.  Parents help supervise activities which include playing, gym time, card games, obstacle courses, basketball, snacks, story times, drama games, songs, hanging out and finally Havdalah (always an hour after the candle lighting time of the Friday night before).  It's a social, fun communal way to spend a wintery Shabbat afternoon.  Shabbatonim start right after Family Services; tentative 5769 dates are November 15, December 6, January 17, and February 7.
  • got Shabbat? for families with 4-8 year olds (but all are welcome):  The Hyde Park Jewish Community Center will program activities during some of the Shabbatonim.  Last year's "got Shabbat?" programs featured puppeteers and Shabbat-friendly edible crafts.  Join us 4:005:30 (ending with Havdalah services); dates tba.
Other Programs
  • An Apple Picking Trip for the whole congregation on Sunday, September 7, 2008.  We'll have a bus leaving from CRZ; details to follow.
  • Havdalah Hoedown.  This perennial Rodfei favorite is scheduled on Saturday, January 10, 2009.  We start with Havdalah, move on to a casual dinner, and dance!
