OUR MEN'S CLUB
All men of the Congregation are invited to join the Rodfei Zedek Men’s Club. An opening meeting is held each autumn on a Sunday morning right after minyan in the Glick Chapel. For more information any time during the year, contact the synagogue office at 773-752-2770 or rzmensclub@gmail.com.
The Men’s Club supports youth activities and offers a way for men to meet each other. The Club helps to underwrite the Congregation’s annual family Chanukah party. Another Club activity is the demonstration of putting on tefillin, held on a Sunday morning in the winter. The Club distributes Yom HaShoah yellow candles to congregants; profits from donations for the candles help support youth activities and scholarships for summer programs. Men’s Club Shabbat is held annually in March or April. In recent years our Club has sponsored baseball outings and sports brunches.
Each year the Club presents the Kovod Award for service to the Congregation, and from time to time a Man of the Year Award. In 2008, Cass Friedberg was honored as our Man of the Year when the FJMC Midwest Region met at Beth Hillel Congregation B'Nai Emunah in Wilmette in February. Isaac Abella will be honored with the Kovod Award at Men's Club Shabbat on April 5.
The Midwest Region of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs (FJMC) holds weekend retreats (March 28-30, 2008, at Pearlstein Park in Wisconsin) and one-day workshops on issues of interest to Jewish men. The FJMC provides interesting publications for Men’s Club members, and it holds biennial conventions. |
