Interested in learning Hebrew?

Master teacher Rivka Kahana offers three classes on Sunday mornings:  Conversational and Advanced Hebrew, Intermediate Hebrew, and a continuing course in Beginning Hebrew for those who have learned the alphabet and some vocabulary.  New students are always welcome.  Not sure which level is appropriate for you?  Mrs. Kahana will be pleased to help place you properly.
Classes will meet at 9:30, 10:30, and 11:30 a.m.  Please contact office for details.
Tuition for 10 classes will be $150 for members, $225 for non-members.

Responsa in Conservative Judaism:  The Rabbis Debate 

The class requested by congregants!  We explore the theory and the practice and the two or more sides to different questions about Jewish law—and the answers published by leaders in Conservative Judaism.  A look at responsa, teshuvot (“asking”) of leaders of Conservative Judaism here and in Israel, on various topics.  Each session can be attended separately, and readings are available in advance through the synagogue office.

Hellenistic Judaisms

Judith Phillips-Balter continues her class on Jewish-Hellenistic attitudes towards the human body and sex.  This year we will study the late Hellenistic novel, Joseph and Asenath, take a necessarily brief look at various sectarian movements within early Christianity, and attempt to explore Rabbinic ideology within the Talmud.  New attendees are welcome.
