“Aronesti” is Bette Howland’s debut, set over the Fourth of July and first published in Saul Bellow’s magazine Noble Savage in 1962 alongside work by Nelson Algren and Arthur Miller.
Find out more about Bette Howland, including an essay by her son about her correspondence with Saul Bellow (held in Special Collections at the University of Chicago).
