Thanksgiving Hymn
Thanksgiving Hymn
Rabbi Gertel has written a Thanksgiving hymn (lyrics and melody). The hymn made its debut at the 2011 community service sponsored by the Hyde Park and Kenwood Interfaith Council and The University of Chicago at Rockefeller Memorial Chapel. The HPKIFC, founded in 1911, is the oldest organization of its kind in the country. Rabbi Gertel is a past president of the Council.
Our Cantor/Director of Community Education, Rachel Rosenberg, led the hymn at the Thanksgiving service. Our High Holy Day Cantor/Composer, Jonathan Miller, edited the music. Thomas Weisflog was organist. A YouTube video was made by Dr. Louis Philipson, who has kindly given us his permission to use it.
On September 8, 2012, the Rodfei Zedek Festival Choir performed Jonathan Miller's four-part arrangement of the hymn.
