A Chance to Listen: Harvesting Community through Stories
Sunday, October 9, 2022 • 14 Tishrei 5783
10:00 AM - 11:30 AMPlease join us for a very special event to mark the beginning of Sukkot in community with our friends from Chicago-based nonprofit, ConTextos.
Founded in 2011 by Congregation Rodfei Zedek member Debra Gittler, ConTextos harnesses the power of the literary arts and storytelling to promote dialogue, healing and reflection. They have worked with over 1,000 Chicago authors, particularly those most impacted by Chicago’s intractable problems of gun violence and mass incarceration. Rooted in Jewish values and themes such as redemption, atonement and forgiveness, and the obligation of bearing witness, ConTextos aims to build a big table where we can sustain one another through storytelling, conversation and community care. This is a powerful opportunity to build understanding and reframe relationships as we profess our hopes for the future and find healing in the abundance that is our beloved city of Chicago.
