CRZ is excited to host a workshop all about challah, led by our chef partner and owner of Diaspora Dinners, Dylan Maysick, and Rachel Ellison, artist and owner of Bat Sarah Press, a Judaica and Ritual Art company.

Join us for Challah, Covered and learn how to make great challah at home and create your very own challah cover! The baking portion of the workshop covers every step of the challah making process: portioning ingredients and dough mixing, kneading, understanding leavening and rise times, and how to tell when loaves are fully baked. Students will leave with their finished baked goods to enjoy for Shabbat.

Participants will also make a challah cover and learn three dye techniques: Batik wax resist, tub dyeing, and ice dye. All participants will make a hand-dyed challah cover using batik resist method and ice dye or tub dye. Participants are also invited to bring an item of 100% cotton to ice dye (a piece of fabric, an item of clothing, etc)!
