Viva Hammer will lead a discussion about the global collapse in birthrates, and how Jews fit into that trend. Jews were forerunners in the Demographic revolution, with low mortality and then low fertility. Today Jews still have low mortality, but their birth patterns are at both ends of the spectrum, very low and very high. What will be the future of global births? And where will Jews fit into that future? 

Viva Hammer holds concurrent positions at the Australian National University and Brandeis University, where she studies Jewish family size in the past and today. Previously, she was at the Joint Committee on Taxation in the US Congress, focusing on international tax and capital markets tax policy.
